Review 2019

Welcome to the club...

In 2019 we were happy to take a number of very promising beginners and some experienced competition fencers on board. It simply leaves me with the warm and cosy feeling that our club is in fact heading into an exciting future - good sports / good fun !

Here are some training pictures / scenes from our new "ravens" :

Oisin Barthoz (left) started in an age of 12 years with epee straight away. Here at training with Luke Roberts.
Inquartata ? No problem for Oisin. Including Luke we have a good number of left handed fencers in the club. So for our beginners a good opportunity to get used to all opponents - left or right handed.
Not only to meet the fencing rules : Perfect attitudes after the fight.
Liam Maguire (left) joined our club in the age of 14. He also preferred epee from the beginning. Here in our special training session in Milltown CC with Owen Hughes - a more experienced but still young and promising fencer from the Midlands who also joined recently.
Liam (left) - showed here good focus even under pressure. Not easy for a beginner to deal with one of  Saoirse`s attacks successfully.
Callum Baldrick (left), competition fencer and cpt. of NUIG fencing, and Patrick Kennedy (right), competition fencer and vice cpt. NUIG, joined our club CFC as well. Great to see our friends from NUIG officially on board ! Callum also takes the role of our CFC vice cpt.

Great fun with our new "warriors" at the CFC in Claregalway !
Alexandra Papantonoudi (left), started fencing at the CFC. She is a quick learner and convinced to continue her sport after her studies back in her home country - Greece. Here at training in Claregalway with Nicole Bolte and me.

There are more names to mention :

- Sean Clarke (great fencer and former cpt. NUIG)
- Sarah Hickey (Safety officer NUIG)
- Sophia McCormack (Beginner)
- Dominic Parr (Beginner)

... joined our club as well !            Good stuff indeed  !!!
(Sorry - no more pics available at the moment. I hope to add a few soon.)

June : Youth Five Nations 2019
After Saoirse`s great performance on the "Youth 5 Nations" we received a very positive feedback from the IFF.
Thanks a lot ! Well done !
Review 2019

April : What`s beeping around here ?
Very simple - but effective :
Since April our epee students can use this little "device" to get a very clear acoustic feedback during their lections. It consists of a 3V button cell, a piezo buzzer, a 1000µF capacitor and an old epee connector. Just "plug & play" - no further wiring required.
With every hit it provides a loud and clear "beep" signal for about two seconds - pretty helpful for the student to develop a good feeling how to "place" the tip properly.
The power consumption of this little circuitry is very low. So the battery lasts for a year or longer. But - just in case - we always have spares in our transport box. After opening the two screws of the "beeper" they are easy to replace.
Of course we have two of those "beepers" to allow our students practice- "fights" and warm ups.....
